(The Workshop Of Knowledge)
How would you define education? Is it just entrance into a classroom with aim to hear what a teacher would say, take notes, and study for the tests on those lectures? Or does education transcend that level of routine to a higher degree of interaction?
Does a man who has never attended a school be an uneducated man? If so, is education pro-active or re-active index?
If to be educated means having gone through the halls of academia, does it then follow that a person who has been through the "schools" of teachers is the educated one?
Random House Dictionary defined it as "the act or process of imparting or acquiring general knowledge and of developing the powers of reasoning and judgment". Let us not forget the root of the word, "education." It is derived from an ancient word, "Educo", which means to draw values from inside.
These "values" could be hostile intents, inventive madness, ideological imports, curiosity, or anything which someone could attach a "value" to.
One's value preferment does not predicate the value judgment of everyone you must note. Value preference does vary from one person to the other.
This being, it, an "educated" person is a person who has successfully drawn his innate values to maximum advantage.
Mr. Oiji, the Founder of Niger Garments Manufacturing Company, Aba does neither know how to read nor write; yet, he has many university graduates under his chain of command. Mr. Ford of America did not complete an equivalent of elementary school; today his cars are everywhere where there is a usable road for automobiles. We do not have any written record with regard to schools, Adam and Eve attended; however, their early rebellion gave birth to the first inquisition or curiosity ever known to mankind.
Human being is a product of a basic culture. This culture is highly influenceable by the aggregation of forces of learning. Profoundably, the learning pattern co-relates to his mind set, and partly influenced by the powers of his association.
A human being can associate with himself, with other members of his biological niche, and with lower or higher habitats of his own ecosystem. From these array of lives, he draws out wisdom, understanding and "knowledge"
far greater than what he could have envisaged.
Education is a process in understanding the creators of values. Who can understand the writings aquatic organisms write in the waters? Who can read them? As the North pole is far from the South, so is the mysterious intelligence that separates man from the mystic organisms.
