Char went to Church. It was pouring rain, and the winds were high. Char knew she shouldn't be out in this, but she just couldn't stand it anymore. At least here she would get a few hours of peace and quiet. The past 2 months had been insane and she felt trapped, unable to move due to finances and no other alternative but to stay put. Answers were needed as much as sanity. Where better to find those answers then at Church, she reasoned.
Her Sunday meetings went well, and Char decided to stop on the way home and grab lunch from the salad bar at the local supermarket. Upon her arrival, who else did she see but Jade and her 5 children? What were they doing? Jade and her kids were soaked to the bone and Jade was pushing a cart full of food, and was running for her car, with all of her children in tow…..and there were POLICE running after her! Oh, there were 2 more cruisers coming around the corner! What did she think she was doing?
As she was watching the ordeal, she felt herself walking over to the officers who now had Jade handcuffed and against one of the cruiser doors. It appeared that Jade had attempted to steal an entire grocery cart full of groceries! What was she thinking? If she needed the food that bad, why didn't she say something to someone?
As Char approached the officer, he asked her if she could be helped, and Char explained that she knew Jade, and asked if it might be alright to take the children home.
The policeman was kind enough to ask Jade, who was rather pale in the face. Before anyone could say another word, Jade's water broke and she looked as if she might faint. That's when the contractions began, and instead of an immediate arrest, they made a call to the ambulance. Char loaded the children up in her car and drove to the hospital to meet Jade, who was by now, well on her way to delivering a 6th child.
Once at the hospital, Char was able to call Byron and he was on his way. She had agreed to stay and keep an eye on the children until his arrival, which she knew wouldn't be any easy task. They behaved like heathens, refusing to listen and running around the waiting area like a bunch of little banshee's.
It was an hour before Byron arrived, and Char suspected he had been into Elmore's stash, which would explain his red eyes and the delay in his arrival. He thanked her and she excused herself to continue home.
