Author: F Scott Fitzgerald
Biography: F. Scott Fitzgerald was born in Minnesota in 1896 and named after a distant relative who wrote The Star Spangled Banner. He started to write in his teens. His poor grades caused him to leave Princeton and accept a commission in the US Army. He didn't see action in World War I and did not go to France. In his early twenties Fitzgerald worked briefly in New York for an advertising agency. In 1918 he met Zelda Sayre, an aspiring writer and married her two years later, in the same year he published his first novel. They were quite the social couple, known for their love of parties, dancing and drinking, often the focus of the articles he wrote for literary magazines. Zelda became pregnant just about the point that their debts started to increase. His second novel was not well-received so they moved to Europe where he continued to drink heavily and wrote the Great Gatsby which received good reviews, but did not earn him much money. He died in 1940.
